Family substance abuse and addiction support
Teens:
Do you suspect your teenager has a problem but you're not sure? Here are some signs: not acting like themselves or overreacting, a decreased interest in activities that they used to enjoy, a drop in grades at school, a change of friends or friends who are very reluctant to interact with adults, routinely not doing what they're supposed to be doing or not being where they're supposed to be. If you think your teenager might have a drug or alcohol problem we can do a substance abuse screening and a drug test for $25. Listen to your gut. Don't ignore those pangs that are telling you something's wrong. Okay, so if you're wrong they'll know you love them. If you're right you can get them headed back on the right track in life. Addiction is an ugly and sometimes deadly disease. If you're uncertain you can schedule a drug test or an assessment with us and we'll meet with you and your teenager to determine if they have a drug problem.

Effects on Children:
Addiction has a way of isolating families. Kids feel it too. Sometimes there's fear that their parent will embarrass them when they have friends over. It's confusing to a child... do they or don't they have friends over? Instead, maybe they avoid home and hang out at their friend's house so they don't have to worry about being embarrassed or yelled at. Or, maybe they isolate themselves so that no body else knows their mom or dad has a problem. Sometimes children are mad because they are disappointed that their parent isn't there for them at a special time. Sometimes they get caught up into taking care of the "sick" parent and become parentified. Each family is different. Still Waters offers help to families with or without the person wrestling with addiction because we believe families deserve to become healthy again.
